About

Bored at home in Airdrie near Glasgow, during locked, young Ewan McKenna picked up a guitar his uncle had loaned him, and “mucked about on it ’til it started sounding alright”. His family’s considerable vinyl collection became his inspiration and, if he got stuck, he’d find performances on YouTube and work out what they were doing by “copying their fingers”.

At 15 he joined a band as lead guitarist, moving up to vocals & guitar when the singer left. “i’d never really sung before, but nobody else wanted to do it, so I gave it a bash”. A brief stint at college proved “too much like school”, and needing to earn money, he started gigging around local pubs. Soon he was playing seven gigs a week, for three/four hours a night. Posting these, and covers at home saw his TikTok followers grow. He’s since won a competition to open for Nathan Evans at Glasgow’s Hydro arena, which saw him calmly take to the huge stage alone, aged just 19.

Ewan is writing his first EP, and playing shows over the summer. Autumn onwards will be a busy time for him.
