Essence Martins is bringing her definition of artistry centre stage, showcasing her ethereal voice and conversational songwriting. 

Hailing from North-West London, Essence was born into a household with an innate affinity to music, with the sounds of Destiny’s Child, Anthony Hamilton, The Carpenters and more soundscaping her childhood.

After 12 years of pursuing a career in tennis, which took her to the US on a scholarship, Essence recalls re-discovering the pop-punk pioneers Paramore, and the trio’s sense of sweet teenage rebellion that inspired her to find her true identity as a songwriter.

Those same stories of a 20-something navigating transitions in her life are captivating and ever present on every track of Essence’s upcoming EP, ‘Deer in the Headlights’, as she lets the listener into her most inner thoughts. Her debut single ‘Pending Status’ beautifully captures who Essence is as an artist; a songwriter whose vulnerability is her greatest strength
